The Carter Center was founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in 1982 to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope worldwide. A not-for-profit organization, the Center works to resolve conflicts, advance democracy, protect human rights, prevent disease, and improve mental health care.
